Validating the Nernst–Planck transport model under reaction-driven flow conditions using RetroPy v1.0

Abstract. Reactive transport processes in natural environments often involve many ionic species. The diffusivities of species vary. Since assigning different the advection–diffusion equation leads to charge imbalance, a single diffusivity is usually used for all In this work, we apply Nernst–Planck equation, which resolves unequal an electroneutral manner, model reactive transport. To demonstrate advantages model, compare simulation results under reaction-driven flow conditions using with those commonly single-diffusivity model. All simulations are also compared well-defined experiments on scale centimeters. Our show that valid and particularly relevant modeling intricate interplay among diffusion, reaction, electromigration, density-driven convection.
